A psychologically safe environment benefits both businesses and employees. It means that concerns can be raised and that the team aligns to a central goal. In workplaces, managers are key influencers in creating this supportive environment as they need to balance delivering business goals and keeping staff happy.

At times managers need intentionally break policies or procedures to improve the environment around them.

This podcast plays off the constructs of meditation content so that people in management positions can reflect on their influence and build up their confidence to question the structures put in place around them. The podcast interprets interviews with medical leaders including a senior paramedic and doctor, outlining that even in the most high-pressure environments, pro-social rule breaking (PSRB) is possible to create an environment that values employee development and transparency when inevitable errors occur. It was an active choice to interview medical professionals and share that cross-industry knowledge. The aim is to ground the supporting academic readings as even in the most extreme cases of facing emergency situations, managers face the same pressures from the business.

This is meant to be a continued reflection for people in leadership positions, to assess their responsibility in decision-making. It has been a question I have also been exploring as part of reflecting on leaders who have managed me, and what qualities I would like my direct reports to take on now that I'm senior and responsible for their development. As no workplace relies on one person, leadership is more about creating the culture around you for people to also contribute. Developing this podcast and pushing out reflective content felt needed, rather than assertive 'I am the boss' content where the focus is individualism rather than the power of understanding your position as part of a collective.
